Recently, Google has updated and given some specific guidance on bringing Google Analytics 4 together with Google Search Console to better flesh out website performance analysis. A website owner has the option of getting access to comprehensive reports and combining data collected from both ends, thereby producing a much bigger picture given user behavior and search activity.

Key Benefits of Integration:

  • Enhanced Reporting: By linking GA4 with the Search Console, users can access two detailed reports:
    • Google Organic Search Queries: This report displays search queries along with associated metrics such as clicks, impressions, click-through rates (CTR), and average position.
    • Google Organic Search Traffic: This report focuses on landing pages, providing insights into user engagement metrics like users, sessions, events, and conversions.
  • Comprehensive Analysis: Integrating these platforms enables a deeper analysis by correlating Search Console data with GA4 metrics. For instance, website owners can determine which landing pages perform better in terms of conversion volume and analyze the types of conversions occurring on each page. 

Steps to Link GA4 with Search Console:

  1. Access GA4 Admin Settings: Navigate to the Admin section in your GA4 property.
  2. Select Search Console Linking: Under the Property column, click on “Search Console Links.”
  3. Initiate the Linking Process: Click on “Link” and choose the appropriate Search Console property.
  4. Select Web Data Stream: Choose the web data stream you want to associate with the Search Console property.
  5. Review and Submit: Confirm your selections and submit to establish the link.

Notably, just one Search Console property can be linked to one GA4 web data stream, and vice versa. Moreover, it takes 48 hours for Search Console data to be available in reports in GA4, and the data available is up to 16 months old.

Website owners will now be able to benefit from the joint strength of GA4 and Search Console in this new guidance as they delve deeper into insights into their site’s performance to eventually aid more informed decision-making and strategy development.
